Luna: The App Revolutionising Teen Health and Wellbeing
A safe, trusted, and empowering digital space for pre-teens, teens, and their parents to navigate adolescence with confidence.
Luna is the first health and wellbeing app dedicated to helping pre-teens and teens and supporting their parents along the way. The platform is revolutionising how teens navigate the complexities of adolescence, as an all-in-one digital health companion which members can use on their phones or tablets. The app, which launched in app stores in 2022, was created in collaboration with medical professionals and offers empathetic, reliable, and safe advice for pre-teens and teens, addressing the concerns that they’re struggling with today.
Best friends Jas Schembri-Stothart and Jo Goodall Co-Founded luna are incredibly proud to be building a female-founded resource invaluable to so many teens. After both working at Deloitte, Jas and Jo decided to complete MBAs at Oxford’s Saïd Business School, where they met, and the idea for luna was born during this programme. In conversations with other women on the course, Jas and Jo realised just how much was missing from their own education about periods, hormones, and overall wellbeing. This sparked a powerful realisation: there was a huge gap in accessible, relatable support for tweens and teens that could be delivered in the digital, interactive way young people are used to today.
Jas and Jo didn’t want another generation of young women growing up without the education and support that could have made a difference in their own lives. Whether it’s understanding body image, navigating puberty, or learning about periods, they knew how transformative better resources would have been. Millions of teens are accessing misinformation on social media every day, and so luna’s necessity is becoming even more apparent. luna is the antidote to social media – working with medical and adolescent experts to always offer accurate, appropriate advice and education that parents can trust.
Within the app itself, features have been designed specifically with teens in mind, making the community experience relatable and uncomplicated. Members of luna can track their periods, moods, skin, pain, and sleep to better understand their health and, in turn, take control of their wellbeing. There are also hundreds of articles, videos, and quizzes to learn from on topics that are tailored towards adolescence. Topics luna covers vary to ensure every kind of teen feels supported – from periods to productivity, confidence and connecting with family, body image, phone use, and more.
On top of this, there’s a space in luna where members can ask anonymous questions and receive detailed, medically verified, and empathetic responses. To date, the team has answered over 50,000+ questions from teens, meaning that luna also has a direct insight into what teens are actually thinking about and need advice about and need advice on. The team behind luna can then reactively create content that is in line with these needs and what’s trending, meaning every teen can find tailored, timely support when they turn to luna.
The luna app is a closed platform (meaning there’s no peer-to-peer interaction) and this is to keep members safe – but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an undisputed sense of community among members. A look at luna’s TikTok and Instagram (@wearelunaapp) shows the brand is positioned at the forefront of teen relatability, trends, and discourse – while still being completely trustworthy. In other words, teens are actually using (and absolutely loving) the luna app, instead of viewing it as “cringey”.
Luna’s ambitions and success has been widely recognised, having won the Startup of the Year at the British Business Awards 2024 and placing as a finalist in both the Santander X UK Awards 2024 and the TechCrunch battlefields 2024. The team is proudly creating the most connected, educated, and empowered generation of teens and parents when it comes to health and wellbeing.
